Reliable Controls marks 40-year milestone
Canada-based global building automation company Reliable Controls is celebrating 40 years in business.

Founded in 1986 on what the company says is the belief that buildings should be healthier, safer, and more sustainable for the people inside them, Reliable Controls has since expanded to provide technological services to buildings in 45 countries, with a network of 250 authorised dealers. In many cases, the company says, these dealers have worked with Reliable Controls since the 1990s.
“In talking to dealers, people who have been associated with Reliable Controls for a long time, they often attribute our shared success to the fact that we do what we say we will, we do what’s right, and we have always tried to prioritise the planet alongside other business priorities,” says Reliable Controls VP of Marketing and Communications Cameron Lutz VP.
The company highlights the fact that its products have been made in Canada since its foundation as a reason for its sustained success, with its operations based in Victoria and Edmonton. Reliable Controls also points out that, by ensuring that new products are backward compatible, it can ensure that systems that were installed decades ago can continue to function with the latest technology. The company also says it is working towards net zero emissions at its facility at Hallowell Road.
“To me, our 40th anniversary underscores how amazing the building controls industry truly is,” says Reliable Controls President Tom Zaban. “Once people jump in, I suspect they rarely leave. It holds people’s interest because of its breadth and depth of engaging disciplines and because, at its core, it leverages technology that continually improves to help people perform their everyday activities in a safe, productive, and efficient environment.”
In our “Total control” feature from the February–March 2026 issue of HVAC&R News, several members of the Reliable Controls leadership team share their insights into the importance of instrumentation and control in HVAC&R.
