Daikin Australia has launched the latest addition to its flagship VRV range, the VRV H Series (RXYQ-BYM).

The company’s inaugural variable refrigerant volume (VRV) air conditioning system was launched in 1982, and according to Daikin was the world’s first use of VRV control.

The system circulates only the minimum amount of refrigerant needed during a single heating or cooling period, enabling end-users to individually control several air conditioning zones at one time.

Now in its sixth generation, the VRV H Series has been created with enhancements in design, capacity, installation convenience, reliability, comfort, and energy efficiency.

According to Daikin, the new system can accommodate both single and multi-module configurations, with the design minimising the overall space required for mechanical equipment and the number of electrical and piping connections.

Single modules start at 8HP (6kW) and now come in three chassis sizes, thanks to the introduction of an XL chassis with 22 and 24HP (67.0kW) capacity. This is 1,750mm wide x 765mm deep x 1,660mm tall, and according to Daikin achieves a 4 per cent reduction in total footprint and weight compared to the fifth-generation VRV Series.

Up to three single modules can be combined to deliver a total capacity of up to 60HP (168.0kW). The units also incorporate hardware and software innovations to significantly boost energy efficiency.

At the heart of this system is the patented High Efficiency P-Type Compressor, engineered for optimal part-load performance, which Daikin says delivers an efficiency improvement of up to 29 per cent over its predecessor.

“Taking energy savings to the next level is our VRT Smart II Control,” says Daikin. “This state-of-the-art system regulates the air volume of the indoor unit and adjusts the refrigerant temperature of the compressor along with outdoor unit fan speed in response to the indoor heat load.

“This optimisation process ensures both building comfort and minimal energy consumption, providing an ideal balance between occupant satisfaction and sustainability.

“The new system also allows refrigerant piping lengths of up to 165m, offering greater flexibility in system design. And the maximum height difference between the indoor and outdoor units has been extended to 110m, surpassing the 5th generation model by 20m. These advancements further enhance the suitability of the VRV H system for large-scale buildings.”

The enhanced sealed electrical box design of the system features an ingress protection rating of IP55, providing protection against dust and moisture, and a new service window is designed to provide easier access to the multi-functional digital display for commissioning and troubleshooting.

“Furthermore, the system incorporates separate wiring and piping for a swift and straightforward installation, offering convenient access when needed,” says Daikin.

“These advancements lead to protection against environmental factors, user-friendly functionality, facilitating efficient maintenance and seamless operation.”

The company says the built-in refrigerant-cooled inverter PCB, featuring three strategic cooling points of contact, enables seamless operation even in high-temperature environments. With this innovative design, the system can operate up to a maximum ambient temperature of 52°C.

“This technology ensures efficient cooling of the inverter PCB,” says Daikin, “guaranteeing reliability and longevity even in challenging condition.”
